Gender and the challenge for sanitation demand
Studying communities in Central America, Southeast Asia and East Africa, this interdisciplinary research project seeks to develop sanitation interventions by addressing the following questions: What determines the success or failure of community-based versus household-based participatory planning processes? What factors and incentives influence users’ choice of sanitation technology and lead to improved hygiene behaviour? What design features and technologies should be considered when planning gender-specific sanitation facilities?
