Guide for faecal sludge management
Faecal sludge management is frequently neglected in developing countries. Too often, large amounts of untreated faecal sludge are discharged onto land and into waterbodies. This poses significant threats to the environment and public health.
For this reason, Prof. Thammarat Koottatep and his colleagues at the Asian Institute of Technology created a manual for planners and municipalities to help them treat and manage faecal sludge effectively. The manual covers basic definitions and guiding principles, illustrates the planning process, and describes sludge treatment options and examples of best practices from around the globe.
