“No somos juguete de nadie…”
Análisis de la relación de movimientos sociales, recursos naturales, Estado y descentralización

by Shirly Orozco Ramírez, Álvaro Garcia Linera, Pablo Stefanoni

Publisher: La Paz, Plural Editores, 2006

The spread of globalization has contributed to a growing number of conflicts between transnational companies and indigenous peoples in both rural and urban areas.  At the root of these conflicts are two of the central questions of sustainable development: control over natural resources and the protection of biodiversity. In a newly published study, the NCCR North-South provides an examination and analysis of twenty years of efforts to transform Bolivia’s economy from state-run to market-based. The consequences of these efforts have far-reaching implications for the political, social and economic sovereignty of national governments in their dealings with the private economic sector.

Research for the book was directed by the renowned sociologist and current Vice-President of Bolivia, Álvaro Garcia Linera.
